ScanReference: Industrial Photogrammetry Workflow Engineering

Mandate: Engineer a visual-first technical framework to de-risk complex 13-step calibration and scanning workflows for field technicians.
The Challenge:
Industrial photogrammetry is notoriously text-heavy and difficult for new users to master during high-stakes field setup. The goal was to reduce support ticket volume and eliminate hardware setup errors by replacing dense technical jargon with an executable technical system.
The Solution:
I authored a "Visual-First" Technical Manual that deconstructs abstract photogrammetry theory into a linear, icon-driven system. This approach moved beyond "writing" and into Information Architecture (IA), mirroring the user’s physical workflow to ensure precision without external supervision.
Key Deliverables (Systems):
- Visual Instructional Design: I replaced dense engineering blocks with clear, icon-driven steps, isolating 13 distinct actions to reduce cognitive load and human error during setup.
- Vector Technical Illustration: I created custom vector graphics to demonstrate exact hardware positioning, such as camera angles and scale bar placement, providing "visual proof" of correct calibration.
- Photography-to-Logic Integration: I directed and edited technical photography to show "Right vs. Wrong" setup scenarios, proactively addressing common friction points like misaligned sensors.
- Information Architecture: I structured the documentation logic to follow the physical user journey—from "Hardware Installation" to "Software Processing"—ensuring the digital interface was synchronized with physical actions.
Results (Systems Metrics):
- Global Standardization: This guide is now the standard documentation included with all Polyga ScanReference kits worldwide.
- Operational Autonomy: Successfully bridged the gap between complex hardware and user experience, allowing field operators to set up systems confidently without manual support.
- System Scalability: Established a repeatable, visual-first documentation framework that significantly reduced onboarding time for new global distributors.
